A brand-new opportunity aboard a beautiful 44m 2022 private motor yacht based in the South of France. The boat has just changed hands and the new owners are building their team from the ground up, so this is a rare chance to shape a galley exactly how you want it from day one. The owners are a warm, down-to-earth family who genuinely appreciate good food and look after their crew. Private use only, no charter. We are looking for a confident head chef who can run a solo galley to a high standard, cooking for owners, family and guests with crew meals as part of the day. Previous yacht experience preferred. Valid ENG1 or equivalent medical, STCW Basic Safety Training and Food Hygiene Level 2 or equivalent required. Male and female applicants welcome.
Head chef needed for a private 80m motor yacht, joining ASAP in Italy or Monaco. Simple food done really well, with a big focus on seafood — whole baked fish and similar — and soup daily. Not too many desserts or dairy: healthy cooking with minimal cream, butter and fried food. Temp to start, with real potential for a 2:2 rotation and a permanent role for the right person. Send your CV and a food portfolio when you apply.
5-week private trip cruising the South of France. Five positions: Head Chef, Senior Sous, and three Junior Sous. Previous large-yacht experience essential for the Head Chef role.
American charter chef for summers in New England and winters in the Bahamas. Crew of 5, strict vegan owner. Seasonal, open to permanent for the right fit.
Adaptable private chef travelling year-round with a family between three homes. Clean, macro-guided cooking plus elevated dinners. Live-in, all travel covered, 2–3 months off.
31-day Mediterranean itinerary cooking for 4 guests alongside the existing crew chef. Refined, relaxed home-style cooking. ENG1, STCW and Food Safety required.

Yacht chef jobs cover more ground than most people expect — solo galleys on 40m private yachts, head chef roles on 80m-plus charter vessels, sous and junior support on the biggest boats, and short rotational or seasonal cover. If you searched "chef jobs on yachts" or "yacht jobs chef" and landed here, this is the right place: every vacancy on this board has been checked by a working yacht chef before it goes live, not copied in from an agency inbox.
Private yacht chef jobs mean cooking for one owner, their family and guests — usually calmer, with a set crew and a program you get to know well. Charter chef jobs mean a new set of guests every week or two in season, higher pressure, and tips on top of salary. Both come through this board; each listing says which is which, along with whether it's private use only, charter, or a mix of both.
On smaller yachts you're usually the sole chef, running the galley alone for owners, guests and crew. On larger vessels roles split into head chef, sous chef and junior galley crew, each with its own pay band and expectations. Some captains advertise a "yacht cook" or "boat chef" rather than "yacht chef" — on this board it's the same role under a different name. The job tags on each listing above spell out vessel size and team structure so you know exactly what you're applying for before you reach out.
Salaries vary with vessel size, rotation and experience, but most of the chefs we place earn between €6,000 and €12,000 a month, with larger or more demanding boats paying more. Sole chefs on smaller private yachts tend to sit at the lower end; head chefs on 50m+ charter vessels at the higher end. For a full breakdown by vessel size and experience level, see the 2026 yacht chef salary guide.
Most of the best private yacht chef jobs never reach a public board — they're filled through direct relationships between captains, management companies and recruiters they already trust. That's the gap this site fills: register once, and matching roles come to you directly as captains bring them to us, rather than you refreshing a page.
Mostly, yes. "Private yacht chef," "private chef on a yacht" and "yacht chef" all describe cooking for an owner and their guests rather than a charter rotation of paying clients — the roles above make clear which is which. If you're an owner or captain looking to hire rather than apply, that side of the business is handled separately on Hire a Yacht Chef.
At minimum, most owners and captains expect STCW Basic Safety Training, a valid ENG1 (or equivalent) seafarer's medical, and Food Safety/Hygiene Level 2. Beyond that it comes down to galley experience and food style — see the full breakdown in our yacht chef job description guide.
